Yesterday I purchased a Kodak EasyShare photo printer 300 for use with my Macintosh (OS X 10.4.3). Unfortunately, my Macintosh did not see the printer driver for the Kodak machine after installing the software.
This issue took Kodak technical support about an hour to resolve, and searching for an answer on the 'net returned many similar frustrations from others, sans any useful solution. Considering the fact that the technical support representative was not that familiar with the Macintosh platform (indeed, at one point he asked me to "double click on the file ending with .EXE"), I'm surprised that a solution was discovered. It took some digging, and unfortunately is a frustrating situation to deal with.
To replicate the probem, I installed the Kodak EasyShare software from the CD; in fact, going to their website to locate the latest software might be of use (their "auto-updater" feature did not recognize that there was a version 5.2 available even though I was running 5.0.1). Then, I went to the Utilities folder on my Macintosh, via the Applications folder, and ran the Printer Setup Utility program. From there, I clicked Add. Under the Default Browser portion of the Printer Browser dialogue box, I selected KODAK photo printer connected via USB. It will search automatically for new drivers, and fail. This is as far as I could get. The software manual was of little help, and vague at best.
The idiotic solution: Click the More Printers button. At the very top, change the drop-down selection box to what will be a new item, Kodak Printers. It will list an available printer named "Kodak photo printer - 0393". Select it and choose Add. That's all there is to it. I mention idiotic since this should either be a) automated when you install the softare, or b) their technical support representatives should be a bit more knowledgable.
